YouTube Statistics Track

How to Track Your YouTube Stats Properly

When you get video views on YouTube it is not always that easy to see where these views are coming from and to find out what the key factor was that created these views. YouTube offers its own tracking system, ‘YouTube Insight’. This works to an extent but lacks in some features that you may expect or need. There are also a few third party websites that will do the same as YouTube Insight and more but these services are not always free.

First of all though, let’s briefly look at YouTube’s Insight tool and its features. YouTube Insight tells you roughly where your views come from, e.g. “YouTube search: Increase website traffic” or “Embedded Player: http://Trafficfolder.com/”. It also tells you where the hotspots are in your video, (Note: You have to have a decent amount of views for the hotspots feature to work) and the community and demographics – which show you the age range, gender and home country of your viewers.

These tools work well for what they are supposed to do although if you want to find out your total video views you have to leave Insight and go to your account page, and you have to do the same to find out your channel views as well. So I think that YouTube could do a bit more work on keeping all the important information in one place.

Personally I use the YouTube Insight tool but I use it alongside a third party service called TubeMogul.com. TubeMogul does not only track your YouTube views but it tracks all of your other video social networks as well, such as DailyMotion, Yahoo, Vimeo and MetaCafe. This way you can see all of your videos’ progress across the web in one graph. TubeMogul has two different ways of tracking your videos. You can either upload a video to YouTube (or any other video site) using TubeMogul’s uploader and track that video’s stats even more carefully. Or you can add yourself as a publisher and track your account all together.

You can of course use them both together but using the latter method you can track other people’s accounts too. Therefore you can set targets against more successful YouTubers than you and try to gain a bigger segment in the pie chart of the distance that it shows between you and them. You can add as many publishers as you like and track their most popular videos, their total video views, total ratings, total comments and average rating.

So I would recommend a mix of YouTube and TubeMogul, but if you prefer the TubeMogul uploader to YouTube’s then just use TubeMogul’s tracking services. Also if you know of any other YouTube tracking websites please share them by leaving a comment below. Thanks for reading and good luck!
