Linking Text Anchors Additional
More on linking text or anchor text…
I mentioned in my previous post on anchor text in links that it can be important to vary the wording of the anchor text while still including your main keyword phrase (or a variation thereof). Well, another aspect of this to mention is that you should aim to put your main keyword phrase at the beginning of the text string (i.e. phrase or sentence) that you use as your anchor text.
This is because search engines see the first few words of the anchor text in a link as the most important. This characteristic of search engine preference also applies to your page title when you make a page — the most important words come first. Then again, it applies to ALL of the words on a given page: search engines see the ones nearer the top as the most important. Meaning that your main keyword phrase should be there, and your main keyword phrase is what the subject matter of your page is, of course.
So, it seems that whatever comes first in anything they spider is considered the most important part by the search engines. A useful observation to make, a useful thing to know when building pages.
