SEO Web Design Summary of Main 10 Points
To judge from the feedback we’ve had, some are not entirely clear about the details of the SEO methods we teach, so I think it’s time for a summary of the main points. Whether you are talking about SEO web design, internet marketing SEO, organic SEO or just website SEO, it’s all down to the same thing when it comes to on page optimization — what you do on your web page to help it to rank well in the SERPS (search engine results pages).
You know, there are some who don’t think SEO should be practiced at all, but there are ethical, legitimate SEO web design practices as well as ‘black hat’ methods. I find a strong argument for practicing ethical SEO, but this is a matter outside the scope of this particular post, and I will discuss it elsewhere.
Getting back to the SEO web design method that we teach, it is what we have found works for us. It is based on what we had learned initially from others over the years combined with what we have deduced form actually putting that knowledge into practice and adjusting what we do depending on the results we get.
Okay, let’s get down to the details of our seo web design method — it’s really very simple if you leave out the refinements. There are no guarantees that it will work for you (and especially not if you don’t apply it thoroughly and properly) but it works for us so it should work for anyone.
One. Decide on the topic of the page you are going to write. It should fit in with the other pages on your website, and should be a look in more detail at some aspect of your subject matter or niche.
Two. Do your keyword research using an online keyword tool (several are free to use).
Three. Pick one main keyword phrase to use and one secondary one.
Four. Include your main keyword phrase in the (H1) title of your page, adding a word or two extra at the end of the phrase (that makes sense). Use this enlarged phrase in the URL of your page and in the meta tags title.
Five. Use your main keyword phrase roughly once in every paragraph of your page text. The first paragraph is the most important and you may want to use a variation of your keyword phrase as well as its original form there. Least important in needing the keyword phrase are the later paragraphs in the page text.
Six. Your sentences should read naturally and your keyword phrase should be a natural part of them when it appears.
Seven. Your secondary keyword phrase should be used much more sparingly, and might only appear on the page two ot three times at most. It could appear in the page title (subsidiary to the main one) but probably won’t.
Eight. Use your main keyword phrase once in the last paragraph of the page text.
Nine. Provide a few links on the page to other pages/sites, links that have your main keyword or variations of it as the anchor text. The first link is the most important and should have the main keyword phrase appearing in the anchor text before any other words.
Ten. Link to your page from three or four existing pages at your site, as is appropriate in terms of similarity of main keyword phrase in those other pages. Link to your new page from your site map. Add a few other links to the page days later. When you make these links to the page, make sure that the main keyword phrase of the page being linked to is used in the anchor text of the links.
You can also link to your new page from other sites, outside your own website. This is known as ‘deep linking’ and can be very effective in boosting the page in the SERPS. Of course, you need a wider links strategy for your site to be in place too if this new page is going to rank well (for more on that see other posts about linking methods).
