Article Submission: More Top Places and Ideas

More Top Places for Article Submission and Some Ideas About Syndication

This post will help you find some more professional sites to submit your articles to, in order to use article marketing even more effectively for your business.

The most obvious place to start submitting your articles is to an article directory. See my post Top Ten Article Directories Where You Can Submit Your Articles to find a list of the top directories. By submitting your articles to article directories you are providing one-way backlinks to your site, as you will have placed your links in the author resource box at the foot of each article. You are also getting your message out to human beings, which is what it’s all about.

Once you have sent your article to one directory, and it has been approved and published, you should not send it out again to others. Many do, but it is not the best practice. You could rewrite your article before submitting it to another directory, but much better is to write a new article looking at a different aspect of your subject then send that to a different directory.

This is partly because you need to avoid duplicate content, which Google naturally doesn’t like. But also you don’t want to be churning out the same tired ideas over and over.

Note that some article directories have software to find out if the article you are submitting to them is on other sites, and if so they will reject your article.

So it is in your interest to write something new and fresh, not least because you will then be writing for human beings rather than software! Of course writing for human beings is the purpose of the whole thing in the first place, so never lose sight of that – this point cannot be emphasised enough in the face of so many people writing to avoid software or bots limiting them somehow. Just write for people!

However, once you have written a good article that you are pleased with and want to reach a wider audience with, it is possible to ‘syndicate’ it to other places without suffering duplicate content penalties. One way is to use Scribd.com. Scribd allows you to use a PDF version of your article, so it would then not be classed as duplicate content because Google cannot currently read PDF files (at least not yet). Scribd is basically a site where millions of people can publish their work, and is the largest social publishing organisation on the web.

You might also look at turning your best articles into audio files and publishing them on your website in that form. There is technology online that allows you to do this. There are also audio file search engines where you can get your files listed.

Then there is video. Turning your article into a video is much easier nowadays than ever before. You could for example use text-to-movie site Xtranormal, as we did when making our teaser SEO video How Can I Get My Website to the Top of the Search Engines, Rosita? Once you have made a video you can upload it to YouTube and benefit from exposure there as well as a link back to your site from this incredibly popular and high PR site.

Turning again to more traditional forms of publishing for your articles, there are places where you can earn income directly from your articles, rather than using them as a means to draw attention and interest to your website. One such place is AssociatedContent, which has a Google page rank of 6. Each time you upload an article to this site you will get a one-off payment, a small amount but it all adds up. In addition to this AssociatedContent.com has a system whereby selected articles get an extra payment of $3 every time the page is viewed. This website states that ‘Anyone can become a Contributor’. However, you cannot get paid if you are a contributor from outside the US, last time I looked.

The next site I would like to draw your attention to is Helium. This site pays you for how many articles you contribute to their site. This is based on three factors: how highly rated your article becomes at Helium; how popular your article’s topic is; and how much advertisers will pay to advertise on the site. You also have the option to give any money you earn to charity. The best ways for authors to earn at Helium.com is through initial payment for contributed work, daily revenue share and writing contests.

The last place for earning that I want to mention is Gather. At Gather you can post articles, or simply “Thoughts” (short paragraphs). For each thing you post you get points depending on how many times you have posted something before and how many times people comment on your posts. These points can be exchanged for gift cards at places such as Starbucks and Amazon.com. Alternatively the points can be exchanged for cash through a PayPal account.

Please note that for each of the above sites, you will need to send a unique article, not a copy of one sent elsewhere. The exceptions are when remaking your articles into audio and video, and also Scribd.com if you use a PDF file of your article.
