Support continues to be quick, polite and helpful — on the very few occasions I’ve actually needed it, when setting up something unusual, for example. I recently had a minor memory space problem with TrafficFolder.com (not the host’s fault) and within a few minutes of contacting support one of the tech guys there was sorting it out. Within less than an hour it was as if the problem had never existed. Compare that with some budget web hosting I’ve had where support takes several days! TrafficFolder.com is the first WordPress blog I’ve set up at this host. Installation was very easy using the Fantastico pre-installed in the hosting and visible in the CPanel control panel. BTW don’t try to set up WordPress via the ‘blog setup’ link in CPanel there — I made this mistake at first and the resulting blog was based on less attractive software than WordPress. To set up WordPress you need to click on the Fantastico link, when all of the different software programs you can install on your site — including WordPress — will then be listed. It is worth noting at this point that many budget web hosts do not support WordPress properly, or offer you a version that isn’t up-to-date — hopeless for a serious WordPress-based site. In terms of multiple domain hosting at very low cost, I’m always searching for more web hosts like this one. More experienced website owners will see the point here — for linking purposes and SEO you need your websites to be on different IP addresses, which usually means different hosts. So, finding good, cheap budget web hosting isn’t easy, and I tend to go on recommendations myself. I can’t remember how I first came across this one, but I’m sure it must have been via a recommendation. By the way, the budget web hosting used by TrafficFolder.com also offers reseller hosting plans. Note to Newbies: If you’re new to the web and your website is hosted on free hosting then you need to wise up quickly and understand that if you really want masses of traffic, a good reputation and all the functions of a proper website then you have to go with a paid option, albeit a budget one. Free web site hosting is not the way to go. No one takes seriously a site hosted on a free platform, I’m afraid. The beautiful thing about a good domain name is that every domain name is unique and can be a sustainable competitive advantage even for the “little guy”.
But beware, I do put a word of caution out into the community that there are a lot of registrars that when you type in the name to see if it is taken, they immediately register it for themselves (if you don’t). This is a disgusting practice.
When I started blogging I never really thought of buying my own domain. I just wanted to write and blog all my ideas, aspirations, dreams and anything that are happening to me.
